Puerto Banus History

The Jet Set visitors to Marbella have been visiting since the 1950’s, but there was always something missing. This missing link was connected in 1970 when a Madrid property developer, José Banús designed and built a Marina not far from Marbella itself. It was to be a luxury marina and shopping complex for the Marbella jet-set and the super rich.

The Marina enjoyed a lavish opening with the guest list including the Aga Kahn, Roman Polanski, Hugh Heffner and Prince Rainer and the glamorous Princess Grace also attended the exclusive event where guests consumed over 50 pounds of Beluga caviar.

The jet set enjoyed this little slice of luxury with many famous people mooring their expensive sea vessels including that of the King Of Saudi Arabia and many Hollywood actors and actresses.

The development grew and grew and there are now many top bars and restaurants along the harbor itself. Although in the last few years the tourist trade of wealthy north Europeans and holidaying Spaniards looking for the jet set life have made Puerto Banus one of Europe’s hot spots for the worlds jet setters

Excursions & Day Trips in Costa de Sol

As beautiful and attractive the Malaga coastal strip is you may feel the desire to to visit the dramatic mountainous inland countryside or the nearby historic white villages, towns, and cities of Andalucia.

Here are some our favourites:

Alhambra Palace

On a hill overlooking Granada, the Alhambra—a sprawling palace-citadel that comprised royal residential quarters, court complexes flanked by official chambers, a bath, and a mosque—was begun in the thirteenth century by Ibn al-Ahmar, founder of the Nasrid dynasty, and was continued by his successors in the fourteenth century.

Its most celebrated portions—a series of courtyards surrounded by rooms—present a varied repetoire of Moorish arched, columnar, and domical forms. The romantic imagination of centuries of visitors has been captivated by the special combination of the slender columnar arcades, fountains, and light-reflecting water basins found in those courtyards—the Lion Court in particular; this combination is understood from inscriptions to be a physical realization of descriptions of Paradise in Islamic poetry.”

We can organize minibus tours to Alhambra Palace for small or large groups with minibus transport to and from your chosen pickup point, either the cruise liner or elsewhere. There are guided tours around the palace or feel free to wonder around and take in the breathtaking beauty of this famous landmark. For Alhambra Palace tour enquiries please feel free to contact us.
