Golf Courses along the Costa del Sol
is the busiest, most popular golf complex in Spain.
The Los Lagos course
- Holes: 18
- Par: 71
- Length: 6348 m
- Design: Robert Trent Jones
is well established and as its name implies, features water which comes into play on nine holes. The first, a par-5 dogleg left is, at 500 metres, long for an opening hole but Los Lagos has variety, wide fairways, plenty of trees and very little rough. The tenth and thirteenth tees stand side-by-side on a hill top. The tenth is the shorter hole with water on the right. The thirteenth is a par-5 down the same broad slope but now the water is on the left. All this can be seen on the GPS screens in the new fleet of EZ-Go buggies now ready to whisk you around the course. Considered to be one of the best championship layouts on the coast.
The Los Olivos course

has been completely rebuilt and planted with Bermuda 419. The old fourth which used to curve sharp right up to a raised green is now a straight hole. The greens have been enlarged by up to fifty percent. There are more and larger tees and the lake area around the sixth, seventh, eighth and eighteenth holes has been relined with white stone. The par-4 thirteenth has been straightened bringing the green into view from the tee and the fourteenth, par-3 has new high tees and a rebuilt green with new bunkers. Mijas Golf also has one of the best stocked golf shops on the Coast.

is both beautiful and challenging, especially for those who enjoy their golf with elevated greens and water. Miraflores is one of the Costa del Sol's top leisure and resort developments. Located in the hills above Mijas Costa it offers breathtaking views of the countryside down to the sea. The course has a number of elevated greens which require some tough walking so a buggy is often a good idea. The 18th green is tricky with severe slopes. Watch out for the 15th hole, where water forms a moat around the green. An enjoyable course that is not too long.

Nestling in the mountains of Benahavis Monte Mayor is one of Andalucias most spectacular Golf Courses. It is a challenging proposition but for risk taking players, the quality of the Greens, the natural beauty of the situation and its quietness, will make your round of golf unforgettable. In a wooded valley crossed by a river with marble waterfalls, it has 6 bridges linking trees, fairways and greens.
Take the Benahavís road which begins at the Río Guadalmina, on the border between Marbella and Estepona, and after 3 kilometres you will come across a turnoff to the left. The course is about 5 km's from this crossroads, beyond the Marbella Club Golf Resort.

Designed and built the course in the middle of the 70´s it is an attractive and very well laid out course which is not too hilly but does have some tight fairways lined with the orange trees that the gives the course its name. Golfers should be aware that there is a big difference between the front and the back nine. The beautiful club house was inaugurated in the end of 1991. A total length of more than 6.000 metres from the yellow tee, Par 72 , (and almost 6.500 metres from the white) makes Los Naranjos a challenge not only for the average player but even for the very best professionals!

Set amidst the rolling countryside of Andalucía, only five minutes from the fasionable resort of Marbella, is one of the finest championship courses in Europe. The 18 hole layout was imaginatively conceived and is designed to compliment the existing environment and provide a testing but enjoyable game for golfers of different abilities. Bunkers abound and the rough can be difficult for shots that stray. Several lakes, which enhance the scenic value of the course particularly on the back nine, have to be successfully negotiated to preserve a reasonable score-card. Every hole is unique in design and character while affording views of the Mediterranean Sea.

Parador Málaga del Golf has a history that goes back to 1925 when it was founded by the Spanish Royal Family. Parador Málaga del Golf, the oldest golf course at the Costa del Sol, was designed by Tom Simpson who is particularly known for designing the famous golf courses Turnberry and Muirfield in Scotland. This Championship course can be described as partly a links course and partly a parkland course. It's here at parador del Golf where you will enjoy a multitude of exotic parakeets if you're lucky! The golf course has it's own character compared to most other courses at the coast and it is both a challenge for the experienced golfer and kindly for the less experienced between us. The golf course is still owned by the state and part of the Parador.

is a good holiday course in a valley surrounded by hills and an abundance of vegetation. The fast greens and palm-tree lined fairways offers peaceful enjoyment to players of all levels. The course, set in Paraiso valley and traversed by streams, many of which are hidden, winds round two lakes and through hundreds of trees. The wide fairways are bordered by heavy rough. The 6th hole is generally regarded as the best on the course, a par-five dogleg left where your drive must steer clear of two well positioned bunkers, left and right, and your second shot should be aimed to the left in order to avoid landing in the lake. The green has two tiers.

is a test of stamina and accuracy from its elevated tees. The Golf School is on hand for those wishing to improve. A challenging course at the top of Marbella's golf valley inaugurated in 1989. Three nine-hole loops, played in different combinations, wind through a large real estate development. A technical course that reflects the designer Manuel Piñero's own playing characteristics in that it rewards accuracy rather than long hitting. A variety of hazards come into play from elevated tees with trees, water, sand and streams to negotiate before approaching a good proportion of raised greens. Situated in a very nice valley with sea views crossed by the Rio Real Creek that lent the course its name. Only 3 km's from Marbella, Javier Arana designed the course on the 60´s and it opened to the public in 1965. It follows a gradual incline towards the sea but is otherwise flat. Golf here is a very pleasant experience, offering wonderful views, well established trees and much appreciated shade while the river intersects the course at various points. The dogleg 10th hole is a pretty par 4 leading to a spectacular 11th tee overlooking a green whose access lies across a ravine.

2002 saw work begin on the construction of The New Course - a second championship golf course at the Club. The new world class course - 6626 metres from the championship tees - aims to complement The Old Course, while presenting a very different challenge. The designs, by the renowned American course designer Perry Dye, incorporate the contours of the San Roque hills, giving golfers wonderful views to the Guadalquiton River and the Mediterranean Sea beyond. The idea was to create a new course that is a challenge for scratch and low handicap golfers but that is also possible for higher handicap players to enjoy. To that end each hole has five different tee positions and fairways that are wider than those on The Old Course. Nevertheless, these fairways are designed to reward canny tactics and skilful drive placement. Water hazards guard four of the greens, also defended by more than a hundred strategic bunkers, which lie in wait for wayward or ambitious drivers. The plentiful growth of mature cork oaks, San Roque's excellent weather, soil drainage and irrigation plus the expertise of our experienced team of green-keepers means that the club's new course - opened in 2003 - is expected to bed in quickly. It will then provide a thrilling alternative to the rigours of The Old Course. 6626 metres par 72

in the foothills of the Sierra Bermeja, where the mountains meet the sea, is a legendary home for European golf Created in 1990. Designed by Dave Thomas with bunkers redesigned by Seve ballesteros, The Old Course is rated amongst the finest in Europe. For many years it has played host to memorable moments for the young pretenders and old campaigners alike. The course's tight, sloping fairways are lined by mature cork oak trees - demanding straight, accurate driving. Strategic bunker placement and deceptive water hazards threaten all but the most precise approach shots. The greens are fast, contoured and true, rewarding well-judged putts and punishing anything else. Acknowledged for it's challenge throughout Europe, The Old Course provides a test for the very highest standard of golfer

Opened in July 2001. The course is located only a couple of kilometres east of Marbella. This commercial course with little rough has been well-designed by Enrique Canales in true 'parkland style' so that wide fairways alternate with long par 3s and challenging drives over water hazards. A design concept that has large greens, few hills ample trees and with 75% of the course free from any rough. Probably the most difficult hole is the long 8th (par 5 - 506 metres). With the tee-box positioned at the highest level of the course, the narrow fairway of this hole curves all the way downwards. Santa Clara is designed accordance the latest USGA specifications of a parkland course. Besides the huge river which is swirling across the whole course there are plenty of lakes, particularly the lake around the 18th green which is stunning, and an abundance of spectacular elevated greens. With its plush clubhouse frequented by the only entirely female team of caddy masters on the coast it is destined to become one of the best-known of all the Costa del Sol Golf Courses

Located opposite Marbella's Hotel Don Carlos, Santa Maria's 18 holes layout of a projected 27 follows the contours of two valleys in which the natural vegetation, streams and four lakes form natural hazards. The first nine holes are shorter but trickier than the back nine, which are flatter and have wide fairways. Players will find several holes particularly memorable: at the 7th the green is surrounded by bunkers and at the 11th there is a lake and a waterfall by the green. Other features of Santa Maria are its magnificent clubhouse, its tennis courts and swimming pool, lawn bowls and, for those wishing extras tuition, the Diego Morito Golf School which has one of the best reputations on the coast.

Opened in 2004, set in 138 acres of picturesque parkland on a former avocado plantation between two rivers, Santana is sympathetically laid out by Cabell B. Robinson. The final result is a magnificent course with wide, well-defined fairways on gently sloping terrain, hence it is easily walk able. Water features play an important, albeit not excessive, part in the overall design. Each hole has a variety of tees, wide fairways plus very large and undulating greens protected by bunkers full of crushed marble in order to combat the double-edged sword presented by amateur golfers armed with the latest club technology.

Situated a few minutes drive from Marbella just behind Calahonda, La Siesta is a nine-hole course built around a residential area. The distance from the tees to the greens differ considerably from hole to hole and, despite being a short course, golfers get the impression that they are playing on a much longer one. The course itself doesn't present any problems. From the tee of 7th it´s possible to reach the green using a wood. There is a wonderful view of the Mediterranean from the 9th, as there is from the bar/restaurant - a must for the thousands of golfers who choose the Costa del Sol as their holiday destination.
